If your Emirates NBD account isn't feeding transactions into Xero automatically, the cleanest workaround is usually to export the transaction history from Emirates NBD businessONLINE as a CSV file and import it into the matching Xero bank account. Emirates NBD confirms that businessONLINE can download transaction history in CSV, Excel and PDF formats, while Xero accepts CSV and several other bank statement formats for manual imports.
In this guide:
Maaliya's team can help you set up clean, repeatable bank import and reconciliation workflows for Emirates NBD and other UAE banks.
Book a free consultation today!Yes. Even where a direct bank feed isn't available for your exact Emirates NBD account, Xero supports manual statement imports. Xero accepts OFX, QIF, QBO, QFX and CSV files, and Emirates NBD businessONLINE specifically offers CSV, Excel and PDF downloads, making CSV the most straightforward overlap between the two systems.
See Xero's bank connection and manual import guidance and Emirates NBD's businessONLINE information for the current supported options.
Start in Emirates NBD businessONLINE and select the exact bank account you have created in Xero. Choose a date range that begins immediately after the last statement line already present in Xero. This reduces gaps and unnecessary overlap.
Open the CSV and check that every transaction has a usable date, description and amount. Depending on the export, money may appear in separate debit and credit columns or in a single signed amount column. Do not alter transaction amounts simply to make the file look cleaner.
Also remove non-transaction report headers or blank rows if they prevent Xero from recognising the data, and keep the original ENBD export separately as your source record before editing a working copy.
At minimum, the import needs enough information for Xero to identify the transaction date and value. Description, reference and payee information are worth preserving because richer descriptions make reconciliation and bank rules more reliable. Xero lets you map CSV columns during the import process rather than requiring Emirates NBD to use Xero's exact column names.
In Xero, open Accounting, then Bank accounts. From the relevant Emirates NBD account, choose the option to import a statement and upload the CSV. Map the date, amount or debit/credit, description and other available fields, then review the preview before completing the import.
Xero's manual bank-statement import guidance confirms that statement files are imported into each bank account separately and should be reviewed before completing the import.
Don't jump straight into reconciliation. First compare the imported statement period with Emirates NBD. Check the first and last transaction dates, scan the sequence for gaps, and verify that the Xero statement balance movement makes sense against the bank record.
Xero checks imported files for transactions it identifies as duplicates, but you should still review overlapping date ranges yourself. A changed description, edited CSV or differently structured import can make duplicate detection less dependable than a clean, non-overlapping import process.
Once the statement lines are complete, reconcile them against invoices, bills, transfers and existing Xero transactions. Create spend or receive-money transactions only when there is no existing accounting transaction to match. This prevents duplicate revenue, expenses and payments.
For the broader setup process, see Maaliya's guide to connecting UAE bank accounts to Xero.
If manual imports are becoming repetitive, compare the other options in Maaliya's guide to alternatives to Xero bank feeds in the UAE.
Xero's current UAE bank-import page says users can download a PDF and upload it to Xero, but support can depend on the statement and the bank. For repeatable bookkeeping, a structured CSV export is generally easier to inspect, map and troubleshoot. Emirates NBD businessONLINE provides both formats.
Xero says that if a bank shows a Manual upload label, a bank feed is not available for that account through that route. Feed availability can vary by institution and account type. See Xero's bank feed guidance and Maaliya's UAE bank-feed troubleshooting guide before assuming the connection is broken.
Yes. Emirates NBD says businessONLINE users can download transaction history in CSV, Excel and PDF, and its account-management material also lists MT940 for account statements.
Yes. Xero supports CSV bank statement imports and lets users review and map CSV data before finalising an import.
Import and verify the bank statement first. Reconciliation matches those imported bank lines against the accounting transactions already recorded in Xero.
Xero checks manually imported statement data for duplicates, but you should still control import date ranges and review the resulting statement, since duplicate prevention should not replace a proper completeness check.
If you regularly receive UAE bank statements that need cleaning or conversion before Xero, Maaliya's bank statement and reconciliation workflows are designed to reduce that preparation work while keeping your finance team in control of the final accounting treatment.
